How to Pass AZ-900 in Two Weeks: A Study Plan That Actually Works

AZ-900 has a reputation as "the easy one," and that reputation is exactly why so many people fail it. They skim a YouTube video the night before, walk in overconfident, and get tripped up by questions on pricing tools or compliance terminology they never actually reviewed.

Week 1: Build the mental model

Don't start with practice questions. Start by understanding the shape of the exam. AZ-900 covers four domains: cloud concepts, core Azure services, security/privacy/compliance, and Azure pricing and support. Spend the first week going domain by domain, using Microsoft Learn's free modules as your primary source. Take notes in your own words — the act of rewriting a concept is what makes it stick, not re-reading it.

A good daily rhythm for week one:

  • 30–40 minutes reading/watching official material on one domain
  • 10 minutes writing a short summary from memory, no notes
  • 5 minutes listing anything you're still unsure about

Week 2: Practice, review, repeat

This is where a practice exam platform earns its keep. Don't just take practice exams to get a score — take them in Study Mode first, where you see the explanation immediately after each question. This turns every wrong answer into a mini-lesson instead of just a data point.

Once you're consistently scoring above 80% in Study Mode, switch to Exam Mode to simulate real test conditions: a timer, no feedback until the end, and the same question density as the real thing. This matters more than people expect — a lot of AZ-900 failures aren't knowledge gaps, they're time-management or nerves.

The night before

Don't cram new material. Review your competency breakdown from your last practice attempt and skim only the weak areas. Sleep matters more than one more hour of studying at this point.

Bottom line

Two weeks is enough time for AZ-900 if you split it cleanly: concepts first, practice second, and use a competency report to know exactly where your remaining gaps are instead of guessing. When you're ready to start, the AZ-900 practice exam covers all four domains with a full competency breakdown.
